Snow is UPON Us! Are You and Your Car Prepared ?
It’s the middle of January and we’re now in what appears to be the heart of a snowy winter season. Making sure that your vehicle is equipped for winter driving conditions is important. Here, we share some tips to ensure that both you and your car are safe on the roads.
Schedule a routine check-up to identify and resolve any mechanical issues your car may have before you hit the roads. That way, you’ll be aware of any problems your car may have and will have time to repair them before it’s too late. While the weather is below freezing, it’s recommended that your gas tank be kept at least half full. You’ll also find that you go through a lot more windshield wiper fluid trying to keep your windshield clean, so make sure you replenish often and keep a backup jug with you. Lastly, since your car battery will be working in overdrive to keep your warm, you’ll want to make sure that it will be able to last you the whole season, emergencies included.
Southern Ontario is no stranger to major snowfalls and blizzards, and your tire choice should reflect this. Checking the condition of your all-season tires or having your regular seasons replaced with winter tires is essential. Under icy, snowy or slushy conditions, winter tires provide better traction, braking, control and stability for your car. Pack an emergency kit in your trunk: include a blanket, flashlight, first-aid kit, and some non-perishable food items.
